Labour Day In New Zealand, Labour Day is a public holiday held on the fourth Monday in October. It’s traced back to the eight-hour working day movement that arose in the newly founded Wellington colony in 1840, because of Samuel Parnell not wanting to work more than eight hours a day. He encouraged other people to also work for only eight hours a day and in October 1840, a workers' meeting passed a resolution supporting the idea. On 28 October 1890, the 50th anniversary of the eight-hour day was commemorated with a parade. In 1899 government legislated that the day will be a public holiday from 1900. The Learning in The Making Conference ‘16 Friday was The Learning in The Making Conference. The school has it every year so students have an opportunity to learn something new from other people too. My favorite workshop was the paracord wristband one because I learned how to make them and I used resilience on starting because I was confused with the starting knot then, I watched Mrs. Blunden do the knots, so I did the same thing she did then I succeeded. I also got teamwork skills from team building because we had hard puzzles. My favorite puzzle was the Simpsons puzzle and we were supposed to cross the river. But I had to stay because I had to be with Marge because I was Maggie. Lisa(Summer) had to stay with Marge too. Our team lost because the other team cheated. We still had fun, though.
My Holiday Recount My holiday was not the best holiday, but it wasn’t the worst one either. On the first Friday, we went to Hamilton and were there for the whole day. My favourite part was when we got Shopkins in one of the stores. My least favourite part was when we went to Bed, Bath and Beyond because there were chairs everywhere and I was tempted to sit in them. Then on Monday, we went to Dress smart. My two favourite parts were that there were lots of cool stuff and cotton candy. I think the worst part was when we had to walk everywhere and it was tiring.
